The White Desert is situated at 45
kilometers from Farafra North and is also known as the Sahara
el Beyda. The White Desert attracts numerous tourists with its
cream-white color that is totally in contrast with the rest of
the desert that is yellow. The huge rocks of chalk were created
by the sandstorms that happened here from time to time. These
rock formations have a dramatic appearance, one of the most
interesting rocks looking like white pillar that has a balancing
rock on the top of it. It is a weird structure that you have to
see, if you plan to make a trip to the White Desert. Other
interesting forms that can be seen here are the minarets shapes,
the castles shapes, the domes and the towers shapes. More, if
you choose to make a trip here, you can choose one of the
organized trips that include to remain overnight in desert. A
night in the White Desert will give you the feeling of the
Arctic landscape. This place is also a camping place for
Egyptians schools which organize here some excursions. From the
White Desert you can go to the Black Desert, which is at 100
kilometers in North East, to the Crystal Mountain, situated at
45 kilometers in North, to the Bahariya, situated at 150
kilometers in North or to Agabat that is at 55 kilometers from
the White Desert's North East. In the White Desert the tourists
spend their nights and eat under the open sky, because there are
no settlements. But a night spend under the White Desert`s sky
is no doubt a beautiful experience, the sunset offering an
unforgettable view of this “snow” desert. Generally, the trips
to White Desert are organized from Farafra or Bahariya, the
shortest way being from Farafra. |
