For the pyramid construction the
pharaohs had to use local workers who, despite of what was
thought, were volunteers. Once with the workers the artisans and
the peasants in the time of the Nile overflows more than four
thousands of people were working every year to this work which
had to take the pharaoh through eternity. The pyramid
construction supposed a series of problems. The first of them
was to find a place large enough, smooth and stable to sustain
the 2 million blocks of stones of the edifice. The second
problem was the cut of the stones and the third was the
transportation of these blocks to the construction` s place with
a ship, and the last, the mounting of the stone blocks ones
across the others. In this moment, the Egyptians` genius of
constructors interferes. The construction of the edifice
consisted in the mounting of some platforms, smaller and
smaller, till the top. Each of these platforms started in center
where the funeral chambers were situated as well as the
different access galleries. When the top was reached, the
pyramidion was installed and the stuffing stones were placed
from top till down. There are small doubts regarding the
technique used to rise the stones. The most probably would be
the existence of a ramp supported to pyramid. Thousands of
workers were pulling each block of stone till the top. The ramp
had to be elongated while the construction was built in order to
keep a relative smooth ramp. About 100 pyramids were built in
2000 years by pharaoh dynasties. The result is under our eyes:
the pyramid of Gisah, the first and the oldest of the world
seven wonders, are still standing today as testimony, while
other pyramids are in ruin or just disappeared. |
