The desert of Siwa is in fact the
desert of the Libyan Desert situated at 25 degrees East and 24
degrees North and located in the Sahara Desert's Eastern and
Northern part. An “African desert, the Libyan Desert occupies
the Egypt’s West, the Libya` s East and the Sudan` s North West.
The desert covers an area of about 1.100,000 square kilometers,
extending almost 1.100 kilometers from West to East and 1.000
kilometers from South to North. An interesting thing is that the
shape of the Libyan Desert is of a rectangle. The desert is made
from boulder plain and sand; the animals met there are the
scorpions and the sand vipers. The Libyan Desert, from which the
desert of Siwa takes part, has deep depressions (also called
basins) and ridges in many areas. There are no stream drains or
rivers into the desert or outside of it. The desert’s territory
is uninterrupted and made from basement rocks that are covered
with layers of sediments. The layers are horizontally bedded and
form a low plateau or an immense plain. An exception is the Jilf
al Kabir plateau which has an almost 2.000 meters altitude. When
you hear the word oasis you think at a place with so much peace
and relax, away from the life’s problems, a place where you can
recharge your batteries. And this is available for the Siwa
oasis too; there is not just desert in Siwa, the first asphalted
road was opened in 1984. Siwa: an amazing place where you can
find a refuge from your everyday life, an innocent and sweet
place; the desert of Siwa is surrounded by light and by sky and
in this landscape you can feel that there is no time… |
