The Blue Desert is s site
situated between Dahab and the Saint Catherine monastery in
Sinai, Egypt and can be seen in just one day. This place has a
nice story: a Belgian artist called Jean Berame came here in
1980 to paint a peace line. The artist used 10 tons of blue
paint given by the UN and painted about 4 miles in one year. And
as this area of Sinai became bleu, it was called the Bleu
Desert. This real work of art implied the painting of some huge
brown rocks and it was made with the Anwar Sadat's permission;
the Sinai’s landscape was used by Berame as a honor brought to
the peace between Egypt and Israel. The Sinai’s sky is famous
for its incredible blue, the color of peace and that's why the
artist chosen it. Some of the rocks painted by him are more than
30 feet high and can be considered a monument of peace. These
rocks may look like some enormous balloons or like huge gobs
from chewing gum. The painted rocks are an important attraction
but the wadi itself is the most fascinating thing over here. The
desert’s floor is covered with golden stones and huge sculptures
from granite and the plains are dotted with wonderful flowers of
pink color. There is also a lovely contrast between the stones
and the desert’s colors: yellow, brown and red with their
shades. If you plan a trip to the Blue Desert you should know
that it is a good place for those who want to camp and the
perfect place for relaxing, for taking beautiful pictures and
for climbing. You can take a guide with you to be sure that you
will not miss a thing. |
