One of the Red Sea’s largest
islands, the Gifton Island is also the world’s second largest
island, the first of them being the Shedwan Island. The island
is famous for its very colorful fish, rare birds and coral
reefs. The Gifton Island has over 196 types of solid coral reefs
representing more than 80% of the Red Sea’s coral reefs
biodiversity. This island is the home of the one rare specie of
turtle and also the home of over 794 coral reefs fish species.
The fish number represents 65% of the fish’s biodiversity. On
this island also live a type of eagles and a bird called the
Kittiewake, two birds that are in danger of extinction. Few
years ago one of the world’s biggest sharks, the Whale Shark,
was seen in the vicinity of the Gifton Island. This island is a
bigger archipelago’s part; the archipelago also includes the
islands El Gifton El Sagheer, Abu Monqar Island and El Gifton El
Kbeer. If we take into consideration the intensity of the
island` s rock, the Gifton Island is over 33 million years old.
The geological composition of the island is a rare one. The
island has a very important economic and tourist position, being
of the most significant naval and diving spots. The Gifton
Island has 14 diving spots in its vicinity, the number
representing around 31% of the Hurghada`s diving centers. About
187513 tourists are coming to this island early. In 1995 the
island was declared a protected area due to its location that
faces the Hurghada Beach. If you visit the Gifton Island you can
swim, dive or enjoy snorkeling. You can take the lunch on a boat
