There are symbols from the ancient
civilization of Giza that still exist today, like the Great
Pyramid of Kheops (Khufu) that was built more than 4500 years
ago and which is considered as being one of the worlds seven
wonders. The fantastic pyramid is like a magnet for the tourists
who want to see this wonder. The Great Pyramid of Kheops has
other small pyramids that could be made for the Kheops mother
and queens, a mortuary temple, the boats which were buried with
the deceased kings to help them to be transported in the other
world. Another symbol of the Giza ancient civilization is the
Pyramid of Menkaure, is a small pyramid which also has other
pyramids that were constructed for the Menkaure1s queens.
Pyramid of Khafre also stands from the ancient times, being
built between 2558 and 2532 BC. Khafre was the son of Khufu that
also has a much larger pyramid. The mortuary temple has some
storage chambers, an entrance hall, a sanctuary and a courtyard
which is colonnaded The magnificent Sphinx is also a wonder that
remained from the Egypt ancient civilization. The half-lion
half-human statue is the world biggest monolith structure having
a length of about 74 meters. Although there are no exactly
information about the year of the Sphinx construction, it is
estimated that it was built in 2,500 BC. The way this structure
was made is still a mystery of the world. Giza is the place of
the tombs from the ancient times; about 50 tombs can be visited
by the public, but on the Giza Plateau are more than 6000 tombs.
There are three cemeteries on the Giza Plateau: the Western
cemetery, the Eastern cemetery and the Southern cemetery with
tombs of pharaohs, kings and royal families. |
