One of the most famous diving place in
Egypt is the Blue Hole, situated in Sinai's East, at the few
kilometers from the Dahab’s North. The Blue Hole is a sort of
cave that starts a meter below the sea's surface and that is
around 130 meters deep. At the 6 meters deep a shallow is
opening, which has a tunnel of 26 meters, called the arch, whose
top has 52 meters. This hole, as well as its surroundings has
numerous coral reefs and fish reefs. This place is the dwell for
many beautiful and interesting marine creatures such as: soft
corals, star corals and hard corals, surgeon fish, parrot fish,
jack fish, regal angelfish, triggerfish, unicorn fish,
barracudas, reef sharks. The Blue Hole is a good place for
diving and snorkeling, attracting many tourists. But those who
want to dive here must be really good divers or have an
instructor with them, and not to exceed the maximum depths
limits. Unfortunately, some divers died here, and that's why the
Blue Hole is also known as “the most dangerous dive site in the
world”. It seems that the problem is to find the tunnel; the
divers who miss the tunnel keep on going in the depths, where
are affected by the nitrogen level. The angle between the
tunnel, the open water and the hole it is hard to be detected.
The best thing to do is to avoid “the arch” if you are not used
to that area or if you are not assisted by a professional
instructor. You should also have mixed gases with you when you
dive, as well as a perfect diving weighting system. On the Blue
Hole's adjacent shore are snorkel shops and restaurants where
you can enjoy your lunch or dinner. |
