As you land into Cairo,
Egypt, you will be left speechless as you look out the
window and see the contrast of the setting. Out one side of
the plane, you can see the vast arid desert which seems to
stretch endlessly. On the other side of the plane you see a
buzzing city which looks like a modern-day Oasis. It is a
place like no other and first timers usually feel
overwhelmed by such splendour.
Visitors from all over the world have been fascinated with
Egypt's wondrous antiquities for thousands of years.
Although these antiquities still exist today, a visit to
Cairo, Egypt is more than an immersion into the past but
also encompasses many modern day amenities which anyone will
most surely enjoy.

Strolling along the downtown district and in the
more ancient residential areas inside the wall of
the city where artisans work on the sidewalks
outside their homes is also a great pleasure.
It is
easy to meet real residents that are eager to
discuss anything with you. Some of them try to get
you into their carpet shop. Others are really just
interested to talk and are curious about you as a
visitor.
If you get hungry, make sure to try the most famous
Egyptian dish, Koshray. Koshray is a delectable,
traditional Egyptian meal that consists of a
delectable combination of macaroni, spaghetti, rice,
black lentils, chick peas, garlic sauce and a spicy
tomato chili sauce, all topped with fried onions. |

Visiting the pyramids and the Sphinx is absolutely necessary
since these Egyptian icons are living and still existing
marks of the fascinating history that has made Egypt famous
and is very proud of. You will notice as you go along the
aggressive Egyptian friendliness over in the country from
camel drivers or policemen who try to earn a few Egyptian
pounds from you which they call bahshis(tip).
Just ask a friendly co-tourist to help you in taking a
picture for you and you will not leave the pyramids with an
irritated feeling that you had been duped into giving more
than you should. While in the city, make it a point to visit
the Egyptian Museum first before going to view pyramids.

You will have a
deeper appreciation of ancient Egyptian culture more
to if you see the museum first. You are advised not
to make pyramid visits on Fridays because of the
mass held at noon time up to 1 in the afternoon. The
pyramids are closed during this time period.
Cairo, historical and unique city, combines the
ancient with the more current. . You will enjoy a
lot walking around this city. One of the most
surprising things is the price which is not fixed
from taxi to a bottle of water. So you will have to
ask the price first and start negotiating for a
discount. For those who have traveled to many
countries, people in Cairo are the hardest people to
negotiate with. But still, Cairo is worthy of a
visit because of its historical heritage.
