The Nile Valley can be considered a gift offered to Egypt
because its rich soil and its water assured the existence and
the development of the Egyptian civilization. The Nile river is
the world's longest river, flowing on a distance of 6,650 km,
from the north of the Burundi`s sources of stream till the
Mediterranean Sea. The Nile valley has a beautiful shape that
looks like a flower of lotus, which in the ancient Egypt
symbolized the life's regeneration. The stem is represented by
the Nile valley, the bud is represented by the region of Fayyum
and the flower - by the delta spreading in a triangle shape. The
Nile was the unique source of water for the Egypt's crops which
were very rich. To control the flood, the ancient Egyptians used
the irrigation canals. Due to the water from Nile numerous
animals were raised and the numerous flowers brought bees from
who the Egyptians obtained the honey. Today, the Nile Valley is
not very much changed from antiquity's times: like a green
painting surrounded by sand, offering maybe a desolation
picture. The valley extends on a 750 miles area from Aswan (a
town in Egypt) to the Mediterranean Sea. The most important
change consists in the continuing increment of the Egypt's
population, from 11 million in 1907 to more than 40 million in
present. Another important change is the annual flood
disappearance, due to the construction of the Aswan High dam
built in 1965. If you plan to make a trip in Egypt and to enjoy
the beautiful view offered by the Nile Valley, you also can
choose to have a trip on Nile with a felucca – a little open
sailboat that transports people over the Nile River. |
