The Egyptian Black Desert certainly can be called “the black
beauty”. Situated in the Western Desert, the Black Desert
surrounds the Bahariya Oasis with wonderful hills that holds the
cultivations of dates, apricots and olives. Maybe the desert is
not as black as the people may expect because of the desert's
name, but, indeed the black is the color that characterize this
desert. Black basalt, black rocks and volcanic rocks are all
over the place. The sand is covered with a crusty and thick
layer of old dolerite and volcanic rocks. An incredible view of
what once used to be a huge area covered by water. Speaking of
water, the Bahariya Oasis from the Black Desert has hot springs,
very indicated for therapeutic purposes; these springs have
silver in them and people come here to treat different body
problems, such as rheumatism. The Black Desert has a serene
atmosphere, with a beautiful mountainous look that can be
admired in whole its splendor from the tops of the mountains. If
you travel to the Black Desert and you will camp in the desert
when the night comes, you will have the impression of being in
another world. The view is incredible and the sky picture will
take your breath away! The people who witnessed this wonder said
that they never saw so many stars as on the Black Desert's sky.
Even the scientists from NASA came here to observe the planets.
After you finish the discovering of the desert you can visit the
largest village in Bahariya, Bawiti, where on the principal
street you will find nice places to drink a tea, eat a snack and
chat with the locals which are very friendly with the visitors,
especially the children that play on the street. |
